20 spectacular hotels for solo travel to plan some post-lockdown alone time

Coronavirus has meant social distancing for us all, and lockdown poses a particular challenge to those that live alone. For those looking after dependants though, perhaps while juggling working from home, solitude might seem like a blessing- and the first thing to be taking advantage of when this is all over.

So, whether you’ve developed a newfound appreciation for your own company, or are simply in need of a break for one, here are 20 of our favourite hotels for solo travellers.

Exploring a destination on your own is an entirely different experience from travelling with a companion. Solo travel leaves more room for surprises, spontaneity, socialising – or solitary contemplation, depending on what you’re in the mood for. Lured by the freedom and endless possibilities, more and more people are actively choosing to take a trip alone. According to a report released by ABTA, the number of people holidaying on their own has tripled since 2011.

Eager to tap into the trend, hotels have made strides to attract this type of guest by rethinking its design, from offering stylish single-occupant rooms to creating public spaces to better foster mingling. Here, we’ve curated a list of the top hotels that are doing it right, categorised by the type of solo adventure you’re hoping to embark on, from remote silent retreats to smart city hotels .
