Bali is an amazing place, said to be the playground of the gods, yet given it is a third world country there are many poor people in Bali with no welfare infrastructure, and orphanages with children who will never fit into the family based structure of society.

Families are based around their children, with a significant importance in sons looking after the parents when they get older. Those families who don’t have any boys usually adopt a boy, but not from orphanages only within the family.

This leaves orphans without a family or support structure for the rest of their lives. It is harder for them to find work as adults, and harder to get married without a familial line of support and dependence. It also puts a lot of stress onto low income communities where they can’t afford to send their kids to school and need them to work from a young age.

Bliss Sanctuary for Women is dedicated to giving back to the local community with proceeds from every booking going to our humanitarian fund used to support the children of Bali through handpicked organisations such as BCF (Bali Children Foundation) and Bali Kids

Our founder Zoe Watson has chosen to align Bliss Sanctuary For Women with organisations who are set up to help the communities in the way they need help rather than us trying to decide what they need. ‘It takes years to realise the real needs in other cultures within their own value systems and community structures’ says Zoe, ‘We have chosen BCF and Bali Kids specifically to help give young children a well rounded education and health care which gives both them and the community around them a better chane and self esteem. It empowers them to make big changes in their own life.’ Zoe also spends some personal time within these communities supplying food and clothing & getting to know the children.

One of the things we are most excited about is building in ‘traineeships’ within the BSFW staffing structure. Zoe is in the process of putting training programs together for the children coming of age where they need to fend for themselves in the wider Bali Community. These training programs help these young adults to learn the professions within the tourism industry specifically the running and maintenance of Villas.

Where possible we provide 3 month traineeships for young adults, giving them the skills and a much sought after references making it much easier to secure a job through the training and expertise supplied with on the job experience.

We ask if any guests coming to Bliss Sanctuary for Women or Bali can please bring some childrens clothing (mainly t-shirts, shorts, dresses), books and basic toys, pencils and paper. These are the most sought after items needed by the orphanages and schools..

In the past we have supported orphanages through ‘sponsoring a cow’. Where we have bought 3 pregnant cows to provide milk, food and further income with the sale of the calves. Given this particular orphanage is in rural Bali 4.5 hours from Kuta, they have room for Cows, and also grow their own vegetables, and chickens.

We don’t generally encourage guests to visit the Bali Orphanages as it is quite gruelling on the infrastructure of Orphanages and Communities to constantly accommodate guests. We are trying to promote a community of normacy, not having children with less advantages being looked at differently and requiring to be ‘visited’ as a result. Instead we ask you to trust us and the organisations we have chosen to distribute your generous donations where they are needed most, which is in rural Bali, almost 4 hours away within poor communities who live off the land.
